WHEN WAS YOUR BABY BORN?

February, 2020

WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH? FAMILY MEDICINE DR, MIDWIFE, OB?

In our home, with Britt Jackson of Metro Midwifery

WHY DID YOU HIRE A DOULA?

My husband and I decided we wanted more direct support, direction and someone more knowledgeable than us to help with the pregnancy, birth and postpartum process.

HOW DID OILY DOULA ADVOCATE FOR YOU?

[Second birth] I felt like this time I didn't need as much advocacy as I did for my first birth which was a birthcenter to hospital transfer. The things she did do is keep me on track to what we planned we wanted for this birth. Supporting me every day past my due date, making sure I was communicating things with my midwife that I was wanting. Also finding resources for body work and acupuncture that helped baby get in a better position and helped encourage labor to start.

HOW DID OILY DOULA HELP PREPARE YOU FOR BIRTH?

She made sure I was prepared with all the birth supplies, that I was resting when I got anxious at the end, and also helped me plan thoroughly for the postpartum time. [She also made] sure I was getting answers to any questions or concerns I had.

WHAT DID OILY DOULA DO DURING THE BIRTHING TIME?

She offered physical emotional and mental support. Helped with any physical comforts I needed. Made sure I felt safe and comfortable to birth my baby. Encouraged me when I was feeling discouraged. Helped with positioning when it seemed that baby was staring to have a hard time navigating my pelvis.

HOW DID OILY DOULA SUPPORT YOU DURING THE POSTPARTUM TIME?

She answered any questions I had. Helped find resources. Came to visit and process the birth. Made sure nursing was going well. Checked in by text message. Made sure I was resting, eating and getting what I needed.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE?

With our first birth we were unsure if we wanted to have a doula. With the second child she was the first person we called to tell and process we were pregnant 6mos after our first was born. I have since become a doula because [Rhonda] has made us passionate about helping, educating and supporting people in this very special time in life.
